P.M. Martin: No free vote - No free ride.

Passage of Bill C 38 by stealth and artifice does not mean that the issue of gay marriage has been settled. There is still another verdict to be rendered; one that the Liberals in collusion with a sympathetic media did not count on. It is the voice of the people - to be heard in the land.

Because of the invidious manner in which this was rammed through, it becomes necessary for those who were hell bent on foisting this on the nation be held to account. In as much as there was no genuine free vote on this bill - the Cabinet was compelled to vote the Government line. Nor were the people consulted in any meaningful manner. Therefore it was not in the true sense a legitimate democratic vote. The only way for this to be righted (now) - is through the ballot box.

By manipulating passage of this bill on the pretext of extending equal rights to gay couples (a cleverly orchestrated ruse) it has given enormous impetus and endorsation to making the homosexual lifestyle ever more acceptable and mainstream. (The ramifications of which are incalculable.) From the perspective of where I'm coming from, this is a most debilitating state of affairs in terms of the nation's long term well being. Unfortunately that is not how it is seen at present, but unless it can be turned around, time and the tide of events will bear this out. (But then it will be too late.) Sadly most people haven't the capacity to look that far ahead, or are sufficiently aware to recognize the truth of it.

The Conservative Party is committed to reversing this aberration by reinstating the traditional definition of marriage as between a man and a woman. It behooves us to do what we can to make this issue the defining ballot question in the upcoming Federal election. It is our last chance to avert a tragic mistake that future generations will not thank us for.
