AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH OF LIFE

Experience has taught me that when vested interests are threatened by inconvenient truths they can and do resort to subtle/covert measures to thwart such revelations from coming to light. The following ad is indicative and illustrative of this - a prime example of it. While it doesn't mention Gay Marriage in the ad per se (dealing as it does with more theological and spiritual matters) it is featured on the website.

The above ad was turned down by the Anglican Journal - for whatever reasons. That is their right and I understand and respect that. I am speculating here, but I suspect it had something to do with my radical view in "An Alternate View of Gay Marriage" on my website.

There was a time when the Anglican Church meant a good deal to me and in which I felt at home, possibly due to a past life connection with this church. It grieves me now to see them possibly blessing same sex unions and gives the impression that God is somehow conferring His blessing on such unions and endorsing its lifestyle - which is not the Divine plan or will.

I am equally disturbed that if the resolution is passed at General Synod, the fallout for the world -wide Anglican Communion would be disastrous. I am no longer in the Church (I've gone on) however, I still harbour some nostalgic feelings for it and would like to see it preserved intact and not irretrievably broken up. Given the seeming predilection of the Church's elite liberal establishment to go with blessing same sex unions - such a scenario then becomes inevitable. This is why I feel impelled to go over their heads and appeal directly to the rank and file of the membership to avoid such a catastrophe.

With the vote coming up in Parliament to review the Gay Marriage issue, it is important to bring this to the attention of all Members of Parliament - irrespective of religious persuasion - as this touches a common chord in all of the world's major religions. (I myself draw on many spiritual traditions.) Truth is truth wherever it is to be found. My point here is to elucidate the ramifications of what is involved by ascribing the traditional definition of marriage to include same sex unions. While the civil union designation is acceptable in a pluralistic society, the "office" of marriage by its very nature is not. The rationale for this is elaborated on my website.

There are those who say 'what's the difference, it's all the same'. No it is not, there is a good deal more to it than that, particularly as it relates to the long term well being and soul progression of those so oriented. Eternal verities do not change with the times; human concepts do and they are often very fallible. The sages of the East and West (in their inspired writings) all attest to the unwholesomeness of this lifestyle and that marriage is the sole preserve of a man and woman by Divine design and right.

It is quite in order for a Church publication to choose what they accept in their ads or not, but the responsibility of the (public) press to present all legitimate points of view on the Gay Marriage issue, is something else. The article "An Alternate View of Gay Marriage" was submitted to all four Toronto dailies. All declined to go with it. The question is why? It is a position that may well have appealed to a large segment of the population for whom Scriptural injunctions (on this) no longer cut it.

The citizens of Canada were entitled to be apprised of this hidden mystery of the homosexual phenomenon and its long term deleterious effects on gays and society in general. There is a valid claim for this insightful observation to have been given due exposure and currency by the press - for it to be in the public domain; thus allowing the electorate to make up its own mind on this. By arbitrarily suppressing such a pertinent disclosure, it reveals a concerted effort to deliberately conceal an enlightened perspective. It is tantamount to a dereliction of civic service (if not duty) and smacks of de facto censorship.

"We can never be sure that the opinion we are endeavouring to stifle is a false opinion; and if we were sure, stifling it would be an evil still."

~ John Stuart Mills

This biased exclusion by the press should be of concern to all who value legitimate diverse views on such an important subject (it deserves to be given due exposure and currency) in the public interest.

With respect to the vote to review the Gay Marriage issue, I urge all Members of Parliament to search their consciences, as they will one day be called to account (upon transition) on how they fared on this crucial test.

As I was unable to get my ad (above) accepted by the Anglican Journal - the logical outlet for it - I attempted to find another avenue to get my message across to the Anglican community - but to no avail.

The following ad is what I would have gone with had I been able to:

Earl Baerg

Christian Week did run my first ad - The Kingdom of God is within you - in their Dec. 1 edition.
Likewise, Hi-Rise in the Greater Toronto area in their Dec. issue.
